A Child Chosen - Perspectives of an Adoptive Parent

Shout-Out Sunday

by Marcie on March 9th, 2008

Savvy  Sunday…your turn to chime in!  Its time for you to comment on a question of the week and talk to each other, give each other ideas, and get to know one another. Stop lurking and comment!

The question this week? How do you save for the adoption (or birth) and pay for it all?

I’ll start this out…for our second adoption we used our tax credit from AJ (which we initially had thought to save for AJ’s college), a donation from our parents, and some savings from the past two years.

What about with AJ? We have dipped into savaings and are using some of the equity in our housei.

Savings, loan, gift from parents, tax credit, and a lot of shopping for used stuff since then.

With AJ, Eric’s grandfather decided that he would grant us a portion of Eric’s inheritance early. It paid for 2/3rds of the process. The rest was from savings (from the sale of our first house).

    We were very fortunate.

We haven’t adopted yet, but I think we might someday. I guess the fees will vary according to what type of adoption it is.

I know many people that would be willing to help out financially with an adoption. It’s helping someone’s life be better and that’s a good cause. I have no problems asking for donations from others. Other than that, I would imagine it could be savings and a tax refund.
