Pajama Program
In honor of National Adoption Awareness Month and in this Season of Giving I’m writing this post to ask you to open your heart and donate to the Pajama Program, a 501 not-for-profit organization that provides new, warm pajamas and books to children in need all over the US and around the world.
They are children who are in Foster Care and waiting to be adopted, they are children who may not know the comforts of home.
They are children who may not know what it is like to have a bedtime story read to them. They are children who have been deprived, abandoned, and need a heart.
Founder and Executive Director Genevieve Piturro says “So many children are without warm bedtime clothing and education so we developed a creative program to provide some of both…We intend to make a difference-giving back is what it’s all about.”

That’s it? Pajamas? Yeah. I’m sure it keeps them REAL warm at night!

A little comfort can go a long way in a cold world, Windy.

Thats what I thought, Kate. I know it comforted my son to have something new from us when we first visited us at the orphanage. He slept with the blanket and didn’t wash the orphanage smell out for a long time, as it reminded him of his first home. TO him it was comfort…at first from us and then from home.

I think it is such a great program. I worked for years with children in the foster care system. Amazingly, just about every single time a child would come into the system they would come with a trash bag or grocery bag with just a few scraps of clothing, usually things that did not fit or were mismatched and/or dirty. It is such a confusing and scary time for a child. New pj’s may not make a difference that first night but why not?
And what if it helps the child feel a little better? Isn’t that worth it? The way I see it as a child begins to feel a little bit better and a little bit better about themselves and their situation …that is progress. Clean, warm, comfy pajamas certianly feel better than the same clothing that you’ve worn all day or soiled or torn sleep wear. I am thrilled to learn about the program and will find ways to donate/contribute!

I totally agree, Lucia. What better way to let a child know he/she is safe than to give him/her some soft and warm pajammies (as AJ says it)?

This is great I am thinking of a way to do this online with a large group of women!
