Is Adoption the new Celeb Fad?
The most recent adoptions in the spotlight come from celebrity moms Angelina, Madonna, Sheryl, Meg, Mary Louise Parker, Lauren Holly, and many more.
But what “gets” me is that so many celebrities say they want to adopt in lieu of having biological children (or after they have biological children). They seem to think that it is such a simple process (we have such money to give), that it is a great thing to do for a child (I can save him!), that it is the easy way out (because well, pregnancy interferes with the real world, ya know?).
But, kudos for women (and families) who apparently adopt because of medical reasons (and don’t want the publicity). Sinitta adopted two toddlers this past summer, Laura Innes adopted Mia from China five years ago, and Goran Visnjic of ER and his wife adopted domestically this spring (unconfirmed medical but did not want the publicity around the adoption).

George Lucas, Michele Pfeiffer, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Ewan Mcgregor, Calista Flockhart, Diane Keaton, Kate Jackson, Steven Speilberg and Kate Capshaw.

This is a very silly and hurtful post, sorry. As if only women who can’t have babies of their own should be allowed to adopt. As if when a celeb adopt it is only for publicity. As if people should only be allowed to adopt kids from within the US, which supposedly is one of the richest nations in the world.
Please think some more about a topic like this before you write!

Okay then…go to Celebrity Baby Blog and count, literally count how many celebrities state “I might adopt a third child” or “I’ve always wanted to have babies and adopt”, or “I’ve always wanted to adopt”, or even just “I think I’ll adopt next time”.
I think that people jump on the bandwagon because it is popular and say things they don’t really mean. Look at the Britney publicity.
What I think many people don’t understand is the difficult process and the hardships and grief these children come with. All the money and love in the world can’t heal this.
And, I don’t think I said anything negative about international adoptions. I have one child from Russia and am currently in the process of adopting from Guatemala and domestically.

Oh, I do think many adopt because they do want to be parents but I think many say it just to get publicity and never intend to.
