If I’m Sick, Why Didn’t I Notice Him?

by Marcie on July 15th, 2008

Several days ago (Thursday evening)  I got a severe sore throat, so severe that I was unable to swallow any foods or even drink water. I was restless at night because my neck hurt and I started having hot flashes.

On Friday I took AJ to his Kindergarten physical and almost asked his pediatrician to look at my throat because it was still hurting but my head was not…and I was totally confused. I get chronic Sinus infections but I have not a s sore throat since I had my tonsils out in High School.

On Saturday I was worse but HAD to attend my father’s birthday party. So, in preparation, I sent AJ to their house for the day, hubby went for a run, and I slept. Apparently, AJ was pretty quiet all day too.

On Sunday we were supposed to go to Grandma Pickel’s house. I declined because I was still feeling crummy. How could this be? I had no drainage, no headache, no flu symptoms. I had a sore throat and fevers.

I never, in all that time, thought of Strep.  And I never thought that perhaps AJ had it too. He’s been crabby and tired. And, he has not been sleeping. But, he just had his vaccinations on Friday so I could not tell if his fevers were from the catching my sickness or from the vaccines.

His doctor agreed…kind-of confusing. Sick fever or vaccine fever?

Nonetheless, as I exited the building with my Strep diagnosis I made AJ an appointment for a culture. As I left the building I got a phone call from camp…he was coming home sick (and it was only 10 am). Guess he was a sicky.

Ah, not a free camp by any chance? Nope, I’m sure you had to pay hard cash.
    Wish you both better soon.
    Cheers

Oh, of course its not free but its just a day and a half (two doctors bills and two prescriptions plus the Dyflucan, of course!). But, once he is on the antibiotic for 24 hours he is okay to go back. Then I get to crash.

You didn’t notice because you feel like crap!! Strep can really kick you hard–it’s an old enemy of mine. Hope everyone is feeling better soon!

When we saw the doctor her though was that since he had his vaccines it would have been difficult to tell where his fever was coming from. And, he never complained of a sore throat.
