I Want Vegetables…
What kid wants (and REQUESTS?) vegetables for a snack?
Mine, of course.
We totally lucked out with a kid who eats his vegetables and takes his medicine. He’s a champ in my book.
How do you get your kids to eat their vegetables?
I’m a little worried about The Bebe. Because you know with all of my luck The Bebe will be completely opposite of AJ.

As you know I don’t have kids yet, but I have known vegetarian families who did not give their kids sweets, and raw veggies were used as snacks. These were also kids who had ’sugar mania” problems who knew to tell non-family members that they did not act well when they had sugar, and DID consider raw veggies treats. Of course, my nephew is the opposite, he eats sweets and the only vegetable he eats is carrots.
I believe in the power of vitamins to get us through those times when we (as adults who are not eating right, or kids with picky taste) don’t eat what we should. My parents always made us eat a small amount of whatever was served, regardless of whether we liked it or not. I continued to be quite stubborn about not eating squash then, but love it now.
Getting kids to try things is the key to them being more flexible about food choices throughout their lives, I believe. Of course small children and kids with problems (my nephew included) give much more of a challenge. There’s always the hiding good stuff so it’s not recognizable. Zucchini or carrot cake/muffins are certainly sweets, but also have more nutrition than their ‘virgin’ cousins. My Dad puts grated apple and pecans in waffles, and applesauce (or pureed squash) can be slipped into many things. Greens are harder. Any real Moms or Dads want to give 2 cents worth?

My son has always loved veggies, too. Only recently (he’s 7.5) has he started to dislike some that have strange textures. He’ll eat fruit at any given opportunity, too.
Yay for veggie eaters!

My boys maintain a balance between veggies and sweets, mostly dark chocolate and muesli bars. However, they eat veggies raw or only very slightly cooked, steamed. They won’t eat green leafy salads either. The only exception to the raw rule is creamed spinach and green peas and squash “főzelék”.
They were preemies, and they have major texture issues.
