How To: Stop and Go

by Marcie on June 10th, 2008

AJ is in the process of learning his colors and loves looking at the stop light to determine if I need to stop or if I can go. He is still not sure of his colors though and often gets them mixed up.

So, I recently found a fun game for us to play in the car called “Stop and Go”. It involves two pieces of paper that AJ gets to hold onto in the back seat of the car. Each piece of paper has one circle on it, one green and one red.

As I come to a stop light I can talk to him about what color the light is, reinforcing the language, and ask him to hold up the appropriate colored paper.

If you want you can put Popsicle sticks on the back of the paper to make them easier to hold (or laminate them in a smaller size). You can also use positive reinforcement and give prizes like stickers or little snacks.
